My Favorite Corner

Do you have a happy place in your house? This little corner is one of mine. The antique writing desk was mine as a teenager. The lamp was my mother's. The little ice cream chair goes back to my childhood. I picked up the mirror at an estate sale (the owner told me it was an antique french mirror).

The little shelving unit was picked up at an estate sale and holds my treasured memories. Pictures of children and grandchildren, rocks and shells in a jar collected from our favorite central coast beach, favorite items with roses on them and a sweet little jar of old buttons (I've been a seamstress since I was 10 and love old sewing items). I've recently finished sprucing up some of the frames with new paint makeovers. But I need your opinions. I'm conflicted as to whether I should paint the shelf black, white or leave it as is. I'm leaning towards black as I think the items on it will POP more. What do you think?

I've been thinking about it and I think black might look really nice. ;) It looks like the framed picture right above your shelf is black....right?? I think that would tie in nicely. Of course, always go with your gut! You have to love it!!

I love it. When I get a minute I will send you my corner. Similar to yours. As to the shelf. It all looks great, but I am refinishing a cabinet. You can see it on my site. I didn't like the wood. It wasn't as pretty as I thought it would be after I stripped it. I didn't want it stark white, so this is my plan. I am working this week on painting it white. They I put a think coat of Elmers glue (crackel)... it will look old, then I will paint on a coat of jel stain (cherrywood)... (I may or may not varnish at that point. Hopefully it will have the rustic look...not white, not brown, but just right...
